Directions to Lake of the Woods
.
These directions assume you are coming from the north (the DC area). If you think that traffic at the Springfield ‘mixing bowl’ or through the Occoquan area could be problematic, go the I-66 way. There’s not much difference in time/distance.
.
Via I-95
From the DC area, take I-95 South towards Richmond. At Fredericksburg, Take Rt 3 West towards Culpeper. Lake of the Woods is about 15 miles down Rt 3. When you see Rt 20 coming into Rt 3 from the left, you're almost here. The entrance to Lake of the Woods is on your left across from a small strip mall with a Burger King in front. There is a traffic signal at the entrance. Pull in!
.
Via I-66
From the DC area, take I-66 West past Manassas to the second Rt 29 South exit at Gainesville. Go through Gainesville and stay on Rt 29 for about 29 miles. At Brandy Station (traffic light at intersection) Turn left onto Rt 663, Allenthus Rd. Go a very short distance to turn left onto Brandy Rd. Go another short way to turn right onto Rt 669, Carrico Mills Rd. Follow Carrico Mills about 7 miles until it ends at Rt 3. Turn left on Rt 3 and go about 8 miles to the entrance to Lake of the Woods on your right. Turn in!

.
At Lake of the Woods
Stop at the guard shack. Tell them your name and whom you are visiting. They will either wave you in, or give you a pass for your car and then let you in. Take an immediate right onto Lakeview Parkway (the main drag around the lake). Be sure to go 25-30 miles an hour ... security is VERY vigilant about inforcing the speed limit. Go about 2.5 miles and you will see a little marina on your left. Your cottage is a couple of houses past the marina on the left at:

Too Far
If you see Fairfax Lane coming into Lakeview Parkway on your right, you have gone a small smidgen too far. Come back!
